Welcome to the Home page of the Texas Students Physical Therapy Association a Special Interest Group of the TPTA.

What is TSPTA?

It is the student voice of the TPTA by communicating through a liaison network. The TSPTA notifies TPTA student members of current events affecting PT and PTA students. The goal is to                                                                                          create an informed student body which will actively participate in the decision making process

                                                                                   of the TPTA.

Greg Perry - President

Hello! My name is Greg Perry, and I am a second year PT student at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. I am a 2013 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. While at SFA, I worked with the athletic program as a student athletic trainer. My past experiences include working as an athletic training intern for the Buffalo Bills Football Club, as well as with the PBR and professional rodeo. In the future, I hope to work in orthopedics and sports physical therapy, helping injured athletes return to the field and meet their potential. I look forward to representing my fellow PT and PTA students and advocating to improve the future of physical therapy!

Cambria Carson - Vice President

Hello! My name is Cambria Carson, and I am a first year DPT student at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2015 with a bachelor's in Kinesiology Motor Behavior. Whoop! During my time there, I worked in the weight room at the Student Recreation Center and attended every sports event I could. I absolutely love doing anything and everything involving traveling and the outdoors. In the future, I hope to make an impact on every one of my patients, encouraging and motivating them to live their lives to the fullest potential. I am so honored to be in this position representing my peers and working to improve the future of this profession.

Colin Freeman - Secretary

My name is Colin Freeman and I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy student and UT Southwestern Medical Center. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in 2014. I hope to work in neurologic physical therapy so I can help patients with neurologic injuries improve and preserve function and quality of life. I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve in this position, as it will allow me to help foster the growth of our profession in Texas, and will help build a better student network to support us all in our academic and future professional endeavors.

Martina Mapa - Treasurer

Hello! My name is Martina Mapa and I am currently a first year PT student at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2015 with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Business Administration. I hope to work in pediatrics or women's health physical therapy in order to restore the health and well-being of women and children. I am honored to serve and represent PT and PTA students in the state of Texas as we advocate for our future patients and our profession.

Ari Witkin - PT Delegate

Ari Witkin is a first year DPT student at Texas State University. Ari holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and Politics from UC Santa Cruz and a Masters degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas. His passion for physical therapy grew from his background in yoga and endurance racing. Ari has been a yoga teacher in Austin for six years focusing his students on intentional movement and breath. He has also competed in numerous sprint, Olympic, and half-ironman triathalons and is a two-time Ironman finisher. Ari is married to his beautiful wife, Erin, and Dad to their golden retriever. He is incredibly excited to represent DPT students from across Texas as the TSPTA PT delegate.

Mark Garcia - PTA Delegate

Hello, my name is Mark Garcia and I am a second year PTA student at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas (Class of 2017). Spending the last 14 years in the healthcare field in various technical roles has led me to pursue a career in physical therapy. I started this journey with the notion that I would continue to work with patients in an acute setting, but have recently discovered a strong interest to work in outpatient orthopedics. I look forward to making a positive impact in our organization in serving my fellow student PTs and PTAs in Texas this year!

Elise Decker - APTASA Core Ambassador

My name is Elise K. Decker, and I am the current Core Ambassador for TSPTA. I'm a proud TCU Horned Frog alumna and a second year DPT student at Texas State University. I've previously worked as a swim coach and instructor, and I've taught group exercise classes to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In the future, I plan to work as a neuro PT in Fort Worth, and I want to continue serving in the health policy and administration side of the physical therapy field.
